god I don’t wanna fuck up thesis. Does anyone have photos of this?
Yep, he was. The first photo is of him on his horse “Antithesis” in the winter of 1914-15, and the one below I think is from before the war (but don’t take my word on that).

DAMN YOU KAISER YOU SHOULDN’T BE ENCOURAGING MANFRED LIKE THAT HE’S STILL INJURED!
Manfred receives an audience from the Kaiser in perfect geometric military form with his Jagdgeschwader.
damn bitch you’ve just been put in your place ain’t that right Wilhelm baby?
Ok this is kind of dumb, but I’m PRETTY SURE THAT’S MANFRED’S HAND
This is a young-ish Manfred. I’ve read somewhere this may be from his first day as leader of Jasta 11.
Manfred’s Obituary,..I have two of them, but this one is easier to see. However, since I dont speak German(though I ought to learn, since my names Kleinschmit.Lol!) I dont know what it says.
I translated it to the best of my ability, with strange or difficult to translate phrases paraphrased, and translated literally in brackets. (I do this stuff for my work, so this procedure is automatic)
“The Beloved of our fatherland, (his) brave simple thinking, (his) exemplary life as a German soldier sealed with the heroic action on the battlefield.
Our beloved and admired commander
The Kgl. Preuß Rittmeister
Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen
Knight of the Highest Order.
“On 21. April he passed away from us. Orphaned and abandoned of his lead, the squadron bemoaned the irreplaceable loss of his proud commands.
From German people, love and adoration, from his enemies esteemed, he died, the winner and now winner defeated [More literally: the winner as winner undefeated].
He was the example to us all, the advisor, the friend, the one to us that can never be replaced. [more literally (probably): to us never a surrogate. ]
With the solemn vow:
‘What you started, we will and must complete your life’s work.’May [literally: should] Richthofen’s hardy fighter pilot spirit live on in us for all time.”
Reinhard [Presumably Hauptmann Wilhelm Reinhard, Manfred von Richthofen’s chosen successor for JG 1]
Hauptmann and Leader of Squadrons (Jagdgeschwaders)
If any native German speakers, or just more talented people, have any corrections to my translation, please, have at it.
Manfred! Stop playing favorites with your proteges! They all love you, and it would kill them to know you play favorites!
I still had some left over photocopies from that book in the Bremen library I hadn’t posted. This one is properly scanned too.
